Recent Pasefika Proud Developments:
Associate Minister for Social Development, Hon Tariana Turia, launched Nga Vaka o Käiga Tapu, Pacific Conceptual Framework for addressing family violence in Pacific communities.
Along with the Pacific Conceptual Framework, Minister Turia also launched seven associated specific cultural frameworks for the Cook Islands, Fiji, Niue, Samoa, Tokelau, Tonga and Tuvalu nations.
All documents, including the Pacific Conceptual Framework, the seven ethnic-specific Pacific frameworks and a literature review are available on www.familyservices.govt.nz.
Pasefika Proud Campaign Background:
Levels of family violence within New Zealand are unacceptably high with Pacific Peoples being over represented in family violence as both victims and perpetrators. Family violence is therefore a significant and escalating concern for Pacific people.
Pacific Advisory Group (PAG)
In 2005 a Pacific Advisory Group (PAG) was established. Over the last three years PAG has engaged widely with local and regional communities in candid conversations to help focus collective efforts in finding workable and sustainable solutions to family violence.
